Apparently, we all got it wrong. The Tory Party won the last election by rebranding into the Labour Party. At least we could be forgiven for thinking this is the case.
The previous government spent 15 years telling us cut after cut after cut would ‘help spur economic growth’ and ‘in the long-term things will get better’. Spoiler alert, things did not get any better, they in fact got a lot worse. Nor did the previous government succeed in spurring any significant economic growth.
Now the current government are telling us that yet more cuts are ‘needed’. That this is just another ‘necessary hard choice’. Yet again they tell us they are making the ‘hard decisions now’ that will ‘pay off later’.
If the government is indeed in such dire need of cash, we would recommend looking in the only place in this country left with any significant stores of spare cash. The bank accounts and assets of the richest people and companies!
Yet Labour won’t do this. They will never change the broken economic and political system that allows immense injustice to exist. The injustice that permits a tiny number of people to possess obscenely unnecessary amounts of wealth alongside a large portion of the population living in poverty. Labour won’t change this system because they are a part of it, always have been and always will be.
The only way forward for the working class to improve our lives is to stand together. To build a mass movement and a new political party that works for us and no one else. A political party that fights for the implementation of a new socialist economic and political system.
A final thought for those that might like the sound of the system needing change but don’t like the idea of socialism or believe socialism doesn’t work. Look around and ask yourself how well is capitalism working for you?
